Purpose of use

To illustrate East German official attitudes towards the inner German border. The image depicts a NATO tank advancing towards the viewer, on which is superimposed a map indicating NATO forces threatening the borders of East Germany and Czechoslovakia. The image accompanies (both in the article and in the original film) a commentary in which the border is justified as a means of defending East Germany against Western aggression and revanchism.
