English: The caption in Clark, Champ, and the Editors of Time-Life Books, Gettysburg: The Confederate High Tide, Time-Life Books, 1985, ISBN 0-8094-4758-4 for this painting says "At the tip of the Peach Orchard salient, Union Gen. Daniel Sickles spurs ahead of his staff to inspect the front lines of his threatened III Corps on the afternoon of July 2. Confederates can be seen massing for an attack by the fringe of trees in the distance.
