Summary

Description
English: George H. Spencer was working as a clerk at the trading store of William H. Forbes at the Lower Sioux Agency on August 18, 1862, when he was wounded and taken prisoner by the Dakota. He was the only white male captive during the war in Minnesota (with no Dakota heritage). His life was spared when one of the senior warriors intervened and stopped him from being killed.
