Description
English: Detailed bird's-eye drawing of the Selig Polyscope Company's studio and backlot facilities in Chicago, Illinois, 1911; published in the trade publication Motography, July issue, 1911, p. 6. Full caption along drawing's lower border reads "General view of the Big Selig Plant at Western, Byron and Claremont Avenues, Chicago." Image shows the main set building with glassed-in upper floor and other support buildings, along with the company's extensive backlot areas, including exterior sets, a simulated mountain, a "large artificial lake", enclosures for a collection of wild and domesticated animals, and additional support structures for outdoor filming. Note the various types of animals grazing in the first backlot.
