Summary

Description

w:Medal of Honor of United States Army Maj. General w:Frederick Funston; this is the original medal awarded in 1899. Congress later redesigned the Medal of Honor and gave all recipients a new version with a blue ribbon; that medal today sits in the Funston Boyhood Home & Museum in Iola, Kan.) Original medal is in care of Funston's great-grandson, Demian McLean.

The above medal, awarded in 1899, reads on the reverse: "The Congress to Brig. Gen. Frederick Funston, U.S. Volunteers for gallantry at Rio Grande de la Pampanga, Luzon, April 27, 1899, when Colonel 20th Kansas Volunteers"
