Inscribed to original label: ‘S. Rogers the Poet with the / Hon.ble Mrs Norton and another / lady – the first sketch for a / larger picture by / Frank Stone A.R.A. / A new years gift to / C.R. Brown / from / E.W. Radclyffe / Jan. 1 1861’. Prov: Sir John Stirling Maxwell (1866-1956) descendant of Caroline Norton’s last husband Sir William Maxwell Stirling (1818-1878), and by descent. 10x12.5 inches."
