Title
English: Stelling van Amsterdam: set of bunkers which represented the secondmost fore position of Fort Vijfhuizen
Description
English: View from the bottom of the ringvaart dike in Cruquius looking at the traffic turning off the dike towards the Cruquius shopping district. The white cement walls have a purpose. They show the landscape form of a set of bunkers (covered with brambles and not visible) from the Stelling van Amsterdam. This set of bunkers represented the secondmost fore position of Fort Vijfhuizen and is called Fort Cruquius, although it was superceded by the first fore position and never expanded as planned. The spot is currently the subject of a heated argument between the town of Cruquius and the Province of North Holland. Cruquius would like to build on this land (and already have done, seeing the white wall on the left no longer represents the land form).
