Summary

Description
English: Formation flag of the RSN Coastal Command
The flag is displayed in the Republic of Singapore Navy museum situated within Changi Naval Base. Under Section 63 of the Copyright Act, the flag is not a "painting(s), drawing, engraving(s), and photograph(s)" and its copyright is not infringed by the making of a photograph of the work. As the Navy museum is part of "premises open to the public" and is free of charge to access, the copyright of the work is not infringed upon by the photograph.

Cropping the flag to display only the logo is not permitted and would be an infringement of copyright held by the Republic of Singapore Navy.

Section 63 provides that sculpture and works of artistic craftsmanship other than paintings, drawing, engravings, and photographs "situated, otherwise than temporarily, in a public place, or in premises open to the public, is not infringed by the making of a painting, drawing, engraving or photograph of the work or by the inclusion of the work in a cinematograph film or in a television broadcast".[63/2006-2018 Section 63]

Reproduction of the subject(s) of this photograph or other type of file made on or after 10 April 1987 is permitted under Singapore law (Copyright Act 2021 (Act 22 of 2021)).

Section 265 of the Copyright Act states that it is permitted to make or publish a painting, drawing, engraving, or photograph of the following: building, model of building; sculpture situated "other than temporarily in a public place or premises open to the public," or work of artistic craftsmanship. The section also allows the inclusion of the said works in a film, television broadcast, or cable programme.

The definition of a work of artistic craftsmanship in Section 20(1) means it does not include a painting, drawing, engraving, or photograph. Therefore, the Singaporean freedom of panorama does not apply to, among other things, two-dimensional works such as billboards, murals, paintings in art galleries and museums, posters, and signs.
