Summary

Description
English: This photo shows two different laser pumping flashtubes at the cathode end. The tube on the left shows early signs of sputter, causing a dark coating of tungsten to be deposited on the quartz glass tubing. The tube on the right shows signs of ablation, caused by the high energy current vaporizing small amounts of glass from the inner surface, giving the quartz a diffuse, whitened appearance.
