Português: No acervo da Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal tem a obra Bandeiras navaes portuguezas desde o XV seculo até á actualidade (1896) e lá tem as seguintes informações: "Em 1616 foi odoptada, a n.º 12, para a armada de Portugal, para que se differençasse visivelmente da de Castella, com a qual a n.11 se confundia a distancia. A remaria verde, que afronta o campo branco d'esta bandeira, era allusiva. ao appellido Silva de que usava o marques de Alemquer, governador do reino, fautor de innovação".[1]
