«Флаг муниципального района „Дербентский район“ представляет собой прямоугольное полотнище с отношением ширины к длине 2:3, на всю поверхность которого распространена композиция из герба муниципального района с заменой геральдических серебра, золота, лазури и червлени соответственно белым, жёлтым, голубым и красным цветами».

Описание герба: «В червлёном поле на выщербленной лазоревой, окаймлённой серебром, оконечности, — зелёная островерхая гора с тремя заснеженными серебром вершинами, сопровождаемая сверху золотой гроздью винограда с тремя листьями».
