English: Fish River Canyon, Namibia. A Meander in a river with extrem fluvial erosion (very obvious in times of periodic floods). This photograph documents clearly, how rapid degradation may soon cut the Meander off and shorten the length of the river.
Deutsch: Fish River, Namibia. Der Fluss hat einen Mäander gebildet, der aber offensichtlich wegen sehr hoher fluviatiler Erosion (vor allem bei Hochwasser) bald abgeschnürt werden wird. Wenig harte Bodenschichten werden in Flüssen mit starkem Gefälle schnell abgetragen. Das Foto zeigt, dass hier Bedingungen vorliegen, die einen baldigen Durchbruch in der Mäander-Mitte wahrscheinlich machen. Das wird zur Abschnürung des Mäanders, zur Verkürzung der Flusstrecke und verstärkter Strömungsgeschwindigkeit führen. |
