Summary

Description
English: Stopping trains cross at Fareham, with contrasting locomotives.
View SE from the Up platform, towards Portsmouth etc. sharply round to the left, the Gosport branch being straight ahead (closed to passengers 8/6/53, completely 6/10/69); behind the camera the lines went to Southampton via Netley, to Eastleigh, also to Alton (closed this day). The Portsmouth - Southampton train arriving has Maunsell U class 2-6-0 No. 31808 (built 11/26 as 'River' class 2-6-4T No. A808 'River Char', rebuilt as a 2-6-0 7/28, withdrawn 1/64). The Southampton - Portsmouth train on the left has LMS-type Ivatt 2MT class 2-6-2T No. 41305 (built Crewe 5/52 - for the SR, withdrawn 5/65).
