English: FORT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1852 TO PROTECT THE FRONTIER AGAINST INDIANS ATTACKS AND INCURSIONS FROM MEXICO. MANY WELL KNOW GENERALS OF THE CIVIL WAR AND LATER HAVE SERVED HERE. IT WAS PRIMARILY A CAVALRY FORT. TODAY THE BUILDINGS ARE ALL INTACT AND IT IS A GATED COMMUNITY WITH QUARTERS NOW USED AS PRIVATE RESIDENCES, HOTEL, RESTAURANT, GOLF COURSE AND OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES. THE PICTURE SHOWN IS THAT OF THE COMMISSARY
