Summary

Description An U.S. Navy McDonnell Douglas F-4S Phantom II from Fighter Squadron 74 (VF-74) "Be-Devilers" intercepts a Soviet Tupolev Tu-95 (NATO reporting code "Bear D") about 70 km off the coast of the U.S. State of Virginia. The F-4S was escorting the Cuba-based Tu-95, which had just penetrated the U.S. air defense zone to aerially view sea trials of the (then) new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) on 26 January 1982.
