Summary

Description

The earliest of the Harrington monuments is now at the west end of the south aisle and is that of the second John Harrington, who died in 1524, and his wife Alice (née Southill). He was son of Robert & Maude, and High Sheriff of Rutland. They had 8 children, including James, whose memorial is also in the church.

At one time in the past it stood in the tower, for once the organ stood where the tomb now is and on Sundays the school children, under the supervision of the Vicar’s daughter, formed some sort of choir. At John Harrington’s feet are a lion and a small figure of a bedesman, while close to his wife’s feet two dogs nibble the hem of her skirt.
