Fue aprobado en sesión solemne del día 26 de enero de 1965, bajo la presidencia de Demetrio Osuna. Luego de un concurso donde se presentaron más de cuarenta trabajos, el jurado, integrado por Pedro Franquet, Pedro Barreto y Alfredo Armas Alfonso, decidió por unanimidad señalar el indicado con el seudónimo VALE. Una vez identificado el autor, resultó corresponder a Jaime Valencia.

El escudo está divido en dos triángulos rectángulos: el izquierdo, de color amarillo, contiene un barco con dos velas blancas y un engranaje, símbolo del progreso y desarrollo moderno de la región; mientras que el derecho muestra el mar de color verde, con peces, el cielo azul y el sol radiante, lo que señala o simboliza los recursos naturales presentes en la entidad. Sol, mar, peces, velas, la industria y la Cruz, ocupan los dos campos del blasón, en colores verde y amarillo. En la orla del escudo se lee: "Concejo del Municipio Sotillo, Puerto La Cruz 6 de Enero de 1944.” La creación de

este escudo se promovió en ocasión de cumplirse el XXI aniversario de la elevación de los municipios Puerto La Cruz, Pozuelos y Guanta a distrito.

It is an image recorded on audiovisual tape, and equivalent conditions to copyright of photographs have been met, insofar as they do not themselves constitute audiovisual works.

Intellectual products generated under an employment relationship in the public sector—or financed through public funds—that generates intellectual property rights, will be considered to be in the public domain, while maintaining the authors' rights to public recognition.
