English: The Erie Canal was commemorated with a 5-cent stamp 150th anniversary of the ground breaking on July 4, 1967. The Erie Canal was the engineering marvel of its day providing low-cost transportation that opened the Midwest to commerce and settlers and made New York City a great port.
