Summary[edit]

This is the grave of Enoch Poor, a Brigadier general during the American Revolutionary War. His final resting place is at the old burial grounds of the First Reformed Church in Hackensack, New Jersey, off of River Street. The Hackensack Courthouse is visible in the background.

The statue/monument erected in his honor can also be seen behind the fence, on the island in the middle of the street.

Please take a moment to read the inscription on the grave marker, which I have transcribed as faithfully as possible, below:

In Memory of the Hon.ble
Brigadier Gen.l Enoch Poor
of the State of New Hampſhire
who Departed this Life
on the 8 day of Septr. 1780
aged 44 Years
Washington, Lafayette and a portion
of the American army attended the
burial of Gen. Poor
In 1824, Lafayette re visited this
grave, and turning away much
affected, exclaimed, Ah, that was
one of my Generals.
