Summary: As she was growing up in Washington, D.C., Emma Reh (1896-1982) contributed many prize-winning essays and drawings to local newspapers, foreshadowing a lifelong interest in communication. She joined the staff of Science Service around 1924 and continued as a frequent contributor throughout the 1930s, reporting on archeological excavations in Mexico (this image shows her in Oaxaca), as well as the social and political situation in that country. In 1935, she worked for the Soil Conservation Service and later for the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization, writing about food consumption and distribution problems
