English: Axe used by landing party from German light cruiser SMS Emden to cut submarine telegraph cables on Direction Island, Cocos Islands, in 1914. Displayed at Porthcurno Telegraph Museum. Also in top right corner is a lapel badge of the Eastern Telegraph Company from the same era.
