Licensing and fair use justification[edit]

It is submitted that use of the image in the article "Maronite mummies" is fair under U.S. copyright law, and the laws of other jurisdictions where applicable, for the following reasons:

  • The image is not replaceable. the embroidery is now housed at the National Museum of Lebanon in Beirut, Lebanon. For preservation reasons, it is highly unlikely that visitors to the museum will be permitted to take photographs of the embroidery. Therefore, it is also unlikely that an image which does not rely on the doctrine of fair use is easily obtainable.
  • The image is small and of a low resolution.
  • Use of the image in the article is unlikely to impair the sale of the original, high-quality photograph.
