Summary

Description
English: "Although El Shatt, UNRRA's biggest camp in the Middle East is set in the Egyptian desert, and houses the 20,000 inhabitants under canvas, all is not sand and simmering heat because the camp is within a few hundred yards of the Suez Canal, which the 10,000 odd children find a 'never ending' source of delight. Not only are they allowed to bath in it, under supervision, but they see Allied ships threading their way through it bearing cargoes from the rich wheat growing lands of Australia and New Zealand to be stockpiled for Europe."
