English: A painting by Edward Moran depicting the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty on October 28, 1886. This was an actual historical event near Bedloe's Island in which thousands of spectators gathered in boats for the dedication of statue.

Furthermore, Wikimedia Commons user Flask contacted Lauren Robinson—Manager of Collections Licensing and Digital Assets at Museum of the City of New York—on Monday, June 21, 2021. Robinson replied via e-mail on that same day confirming the painting is in the public domain:

It is our understanding that the 1886 painting by Edward Moran (1829-1901), Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World (The Unveiling of the Statue of Liberty), is in the public domain according to copyright law in the United States. The Museum uses Cornell University Library Copyright Information Center's resource, Copyright Term and the Public Domain in the United States, to make these determinations. Best wishes..."
