Description
English: A circa 1945-1955 image of Italian colonial Piazza Italia (1930s-1950s) - on the harbour in downtown Tripoli in the Italian Libya era.
  • The present day Martyrs' Square or "Maidan Al Shohdaa", in independent Libya.
  • Also formerly named Independence Square (1950s-1960s), and Green Square or "E'saha ElKhadra" (1970s-mid 2011).
  • The Ottoman era Red Castle (Tripoli Castle museum) is on the left.
  • View is to the northwest, with the Tripoli Bay just behind the two monument columns (before 1960s landfills extended land far into harbour beyond.).
