Object history 1642 vermutlich in der Sammlung des Abbé Cesare Allessandro Scaglia in Antwerpen.
Anfang der 1680er Jahre gelangte das Bild über das Erbe der Statthalterwitwe der Vereinten Republik der Niederlande, Amalia of Solms-Braunfels (1602-1675) in die kurbrandenburgischen Sammlungen. Sie hatte es ihrem Enkel, dem Markgrafen Ludwig von Brandenburg (1666-1687) hinterlassen. vgl. [A. Bauer, November 2016]Seit 1764 als "Venus in der Werkstatt des Vulkan", heute gilt es als Darstellung der "Thetis, die von Hephaistos die Waffen für Achill empfängt".
