Summary

Description Not to be confused with Klages's Antwren (a Myrmotherula). This nice pair is of Drymopila klagesi, a species from the coastal mts. of Venezuela, NE Colombia, and Serranía de Perijá. This is one of four species that until now were treated as a single species (Long-tailed Antbird). All the four 'newly delineated' Drymophila occur in Colombia (the other Andean countries count only one). Attention should be paid to D. caudata sensu stricto because it could be a threatened species (certainly rare and poorly known). A new study by Mort Isler et al. (Condor 114: 571–583) provides insights on the diversification of these bamboo/dense-thickets specialists, feel free to download it from here. Check out Drymophila striaticeps.
