Summary

Description

Located on private property three houses up from from the Dixon Point Lighthouse. It was moved there by the current owners not long ago from across the road in a field. The lighthouse is privately owned. Grounds/tower closed, this was taken from the road.

This four-sided, tapered, wood tower of “salt shaker” design was built in 1919, while the station itself was established in 1881.

In back on the right you can see a flag, blue, white and red strips with a star in the top left, this is the Acadian flag and it is seen everywhere. The Acadian flag was established at the second Acadian Convention in 1884 at Miscouche, Prince Edward Island. Father Marcel-Francois Richard designed it and brought it with him to the event. Like the flag of France, it is blue, white, and red. The gold star at the top left is the Stella Maris (Star of the Sea), there to seek the guidance and protection of the Virgin Mary, patron saint of the Acadians. This flag represents Acadians worldwide. It is conserved at Musée Acadien, Université de Moncton, in Moncton New Brunswick.
