Summary

Description
English: As seen in November 2019, the building at 1323 North Forest Road (corner Maple Road) is the only brick one-room schoolhouse in Amherst that remains in its original spot, albeit heavily altered in the ensuing years. Built around 1860, the schoolhouse served District #17, covering the farmsteads along what is now North Forest Road from Amherst Center (near what is today the corner of Heim Road) south to approximately where Sheridan Drive is today. After the school's closure in the 1950s, the handsome building's identity changed several times, having been a civic meeting house, a dentist's office, and a small boutique. Today it is the office of the local personal injury law firm of Jed Dietrich.
