Plant large and somewhat woody, so technically a shrub or small tree, but in habit more closely resembles a gigantic herb with very large leaves of a rubbery and cabbage-like texture. The individual capitula (flower heads) although pendent (downward-hanging) are dandelion-like, revealing the plant's close relationship to that familiar weed the Dandelion and its blue-flowered relative Chicory (the genera Dendroseris, Taraxacum and Cichorium are all members of tribe Cichorieae of the Daisy family Asteraceae).
