Description
English: The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Abner Read (DD-526) at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Washington (USA), after losing her stern to a mine off Kiska, Alaska (USA), on 18 August 1943. Temorary repairs had been made in a floating drydock at Adak, Alaska. She was under repair in Puget Sound from 7 October to 2 December 1943. Note Abner Read's temporary rudder and the bow ot the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) at right.
