| Description |
English: Red sandstone carving, St Andrew's Church, Dacre, Cumbria. Fourth in a set of four. Said to be a bear or lion, chained to a pillar, and being attacked by a cat-like animal. The lion's mane carving is clearly visible on this one of the four. Said to Medieval or even pre-Saxon. Around 4ft high. Here the beast seems to be smiling having overcome and eaten it's attacker. Located here since at least the late 18th century. |
