Object history
Deutsch: Wappen und Flagge wurden am 25. September 1969 vom Innenministerium verliehen. Das Hufeisen ist als Siegelbild seit 1811 nachzuweisen und war 1904, golden in rotem Schild, ins Gemeindewappen übernommen worden. Es wird als Zeichen dafür gedeutet, dass früher Vorspann für die Fuhrwerke am Schliengener Berg geleistet werden musste. Der Baselstab wurde wegen der jahrhundertelangen Zugehörigkeit Schliengens zum Hochstift Basel dem Wappen 1969 hinzugefügt, und zwar irrtümlich der schwarze Baselstab der Stadt Basel und nicht der rote des Hochstifts. Das Wappen besitzt Aussagekraft auch für die durch Eingemeindungen 1973/74 vergrößerte Gemeinde. Der noch stark landwirtschaftliche Charakter der eingemeindeten Orte wird durch das Hufeisen ausgedrückt. Der Ortsteil Mauchen gehörte einst ebenfalls zum Hochstift Basel.
