Description
English: Copper alloy Bovril promotional medal or token taking the form of the Victoria Cross that was introduced in 1856. Bovril was not introduced until 1886, therefore this must date to the late 19th or early 20th century. The object has an integral suspension loop.  On the obverse the incuse lettering BOVRIL reads left to right and from top to bottom, with the VR of Bovril in larger letters at the centre.  On the reverse the medal reads 50 / TIMES / MORE NOURISIHING / THAN / ORDINARY EXTRACT / OF MEAT / OR / BEEF.

Length: 33.7mm; width: 28.1mm; thickness: 1.1mm; weight: 3.18g
