Anton Eilers, who is listed as this company's president, merged his companies and those of his financial backers into American Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO), in 1899. It appears to be an advertisement for the company, as the officers' and contact information are at the bottom of the page.

Since this company had been merged into the one which was known as ASARCO from 1899 on, there would be no reason or need for Eilers to place an ad that referred to the Colorado Smelting Company after that point. Any ads thereafter would be under the company's new name.

Anton Eilers, who's shown in the ad as the company's president, died in 1917; this would also indicate this is a PD-pre 1923 file.
