Summary

Description
English: Coat of arms of Manchester City Council under Town Hall tower The coat of arms is on a trap door which can be moved to allow bells to be lowered to the ground. The coat of arms is rather different from most illustrations I have seen, e.g. that on mission072.blogspot http://mission072.blogspot.com/2007/04/concilio-et-labore.html which sets out the blazon and explains the meaning. The blazon has above the shield a wreath of colours. The example here has above the shield a plant with red flowers - I think they must be a heraldic representation of either the red rose of Lancaster, or possibly of cotton. The globe in the middle of the plant has on it bees, representing efficient industry.
