GOLUB na plavoj pozadini označuje Duha Svetoga, Božju životvornu snagu.

Duha Svetoga, treću Božansku osobu, koju Evanđelje i kasnije kršćansko slikarstvo predočuju u liku goluba, Crkva u Nicejsko-Carigradskom vjerovanju svečano ispovijeda ŽIVOTVORCEM.

ZVIJEZDA označuje proslavljenu Isusovu Majku Mariju koja je slika i početak Crkve kakva treba biti dovršena u budućem vijeku.

Isusova Majka na ovoj zemlji svijetli putujućem Božjem narodu kao znak sigurne nade i utjehe (usp. LG, 68). Kao što je utjelovljenje Isusa Krista u krilu Djevičinu djelo Duha Svetoga, tako je i utjelovljenje otajstvenog Kristova tijela u svjetsku povijest djelo Duha Svetoga.

Crkva - Isusova zaručnica, prepoznaje u Presvetoj Bogorodici Mariji svoju sliku i prauzor. Presvetu Djevicu nazvala je kršćanska tradicija Zvijezdom Danicom, onom koja je svojim povjerenjem u Božju riječ navijestila izlazak Sunca Pravde – Krista Gospodina.

Vjerni Božji narod nazvao ju je još i »Zvijezdom mora«, videći u njoj pouzdani orijentir na uzburkanim morima povijesti: osobne, narodne i općeljudske.

PLAVA BOJA štita u grbu označuje bistro nebo i sinje more. Modra boja je i simbol grada Zagreba.

GESLO - DA ŽIVOT IMAJU - uzeto je iz Evanđelja (Iv 10,10).

U Isusu Kristu Bog se, u odnosu prema ljudima, zauvijek i neopozivo opredijelio za život: »Dođoh da život imaju, u izobilju da ga imaju« (Iv 10,10).
