| Blazon | Deutsch: Auf dem Wappen des Bistums Aachen, dem schwarzen Kreuz auf goldenem Grund, ist ein Schild mit den Farben des Münsterischen Bistums, dem roten Querbalken auf goldenem Grund zu sehen. Zusammen verbinden sie den bisherigen und den jetzigen Lebenskreis des Bischofs als Bischofswappen. Der Wahlspruch "PARATE VIAM DOMINI" (Bereitet den Weg des Herrn) ist dem Propheten Jesaja (40,3) entnommen, ein Wort, das Johannes der Täufer aufgreift (Mt 3,3; Mk 1,3; Lk 3,4; Joh 1,23) und mit dem der Bischof die "Weggemeinschaft" im Glauben (Bischof Klaus Hemmerle) als unser aller Aufgabe versteht, dem Herrn den Weg zu den Herzen der Menschen zu bereiten. Im Wappen bezeichnet darum der Querbalken den Weg, in dessen Mitte die griechischen Buchstaben Chi und Rho (Silber) auf Christus hinweisen, der selber der Weg, Anführer der "Weggemeinschaft" im Glauben und das Ziel dieses Weges ist: der wiederkehrende Herr. Im oberen Feld, links oben, sieht man den Stern (Purpur), der uns "Licht auf dem Weg" (Ps 119,105) ist, der Morgenstern, der keinen Untergang kennt (Exsultet der Osternacht). Er ist achtzackig und erinnert so an das Oktogon unseres Kaiserdomes und an die acht Regionen unseres Bistums. Im unteren Feld sieht man eine rote Rose, die an den Heimatort des Bischofs, Rosendahl (Osterwick), erinnert, aber mehr noch Zeichen ist für Maria, die Mutter des Herrn, und für ihre Verehrung, ist sie doch die Patronin von Kaiserdom, Stadt und Bistum Aachen: Ave Maria, Kaiserin. Weg, Stern und Rose sind ein Stück Natur, Gottes gute Schöpfung für unsere Weggemeinschaft in und mit Jesus Christus. |
