English: Coat of arms of Gorj County during the Socialist Republic of Romania. Flag is an attributed "banner of arms" of the 1821 rebel leader, Tudor Vladimirescu, along with his saber; these celebrate the origins of the uprising in Gorj. "Industrial development" is illustrated with cooling tower, derrick, and cog. The bottom third shows the old (pre- and post-communist) arms and tinctures of Gorj. (See Dan Cernovodeanu, Știința și arta heraldică în România, p. 198. Bucharest: Editura științifică și enciclopedică, 1977.
