Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Tom Wilkes
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) The image serves to support discussion of three "notable contributions" made by Wilkes in the field of album and concert-poster art design. In the section dedicated to these three works, text discusses Wilkes' involvement in the 1971 Bangladesh relief project and his work on a still from news-agency footage to create the album cover. Wilkes' description of selecting and then airbrushing the image is quoted in the article, and comments on the effectiveness of his design, from Goldmine critic Matt Hurwitz and from Beatles author, collector and compiler Bruce Spizer, appear in the text also. A further point is made by film-maker Jonathan Taplin, another participant in Harrison's Bangladesh aid project, regarding the uncompromising message of the image, such that Capitol Records were reluctant to use it on the US release.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
This image is official album artwork. There is no free alternative that either exists or could be created that would serve the intended purpose. Its inclusion in the article is necessary to convey a point to readers that, given the medium of Wilkes's profession as an artist, cannot be adequately expressed in words.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This detail from the Concert for Bangladesh album cover is the only non-free content image currently used in the article. While the full cover image appears in the relevant album article, this cropped version is suitable only for this particular wikipedia article. The Concert for Bangladesh cover image has been cropped in order to focus on the central, black-and-white photo, which was taken from a UPI news still. The image used is of a resolution and size that allows for legibility on the page but would not permit illegal copying of a quality that would harm the owner's commercial interests.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
Its use on wikipedia is to accompany discussion and critical commentary in an educational article on Tom Wilkes – one of the most prolific and celebrated art designers to have worked in the field of rock music during the 1960s and 1970s. The file is a low-resolution scan, which would not permit copies to be made that would be of a quality that might harm the commercial opportunities of the copyright holder.
