DescriptionClaybank Brick Plant line shaft in machine shop.jpg
English: Motive power for all machine tools in the Brick Plant shop came from a large diesel engine coupled to line shafts like these. To start a lathe or drill press or other tool, the operator would slide a belt onto a pulley to start it turning. Grid electricity was not connected to the plant until 1952.
