Summary

Description
English: 1965 drawing by architect E.T. Spashett ARIBA of south-east elevation of the Church Army Chapel at Vanburgh Park, Blackheath, London. Originally built as the Wilson Carlile Training College Chapel, for the Church Army headquarters which were on that site 1965-1978. The architectural firm hired for the job was Austin Vernon & Partners of Dulwich, but the design was carried out entirely by E.T. Spashett who was one of its team. The spire is now missing, but it can be seen in this contemporary print, which was photocopied and clarified in ink by the architect in 1991. The chapel is now owned by Blackheath High School. The spire, manufactured by British Aerospace in Bristol, was the tallest sectional aluminium spire of its time. The building is locally listed as a building of great architectural significance by Greenwich Council.
