Summary

Description
English: Chen Jieru with daughter Chiang Yao-kuang at Whampoa Military Academy in 1926.

Her husband, Chiang Kai-Shek, was at that time commandant of the Whampoa Military Academy, where, after his appointment in May 1924, they lived together. She adopted daughter Chiang Yao-kuang in 1924.

Released in a newspaper on Sept. 19, 1927, together with an article by A. P. Topic of the article was a claim made by Chiang Kai-Shek, that Chen Jieru was not his wife, but only his concubine. (He made this claim after she went to the United States and about two months before he married Soong Meiling, who was politically more convenient.

According to Chen Jieru, this claim was false. In her memoirs, she describes their marriage on 5 December 1921 and a translation of the marriage certificate was released with her memoirs.)
