Summary

Description
English: Chapel Street , Salford, near to Manchester, Great Britain.

A former Salford Corporation bus, by now operated by the SELNEC PTE, turns into Greengate after negotiating the long tunnel of Greengate under Manchester Exchange Station, which is actually in Salford. It will turn left into Salford Bus Station, which is almost in Manchester. The bridge is Cathedral Approach, and was the approach road to the station from the Manchester side. It still exists, although the station itself, the roof of which can just be seen, has been completely demolished. The adjacent Victoria Station now caters for all the services which formerly used Exchange. The two stations were in fact joined by a common platform which was by far the longest in the British Isles.

This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. <a title="https://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=2114547&displayclass=slide" rel="nofollow" href="https://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=2114547&displayclass=slide">Link</a><img style="padding-left:2px;" alt="External link" title="External link - shift click to open in new window" src="http://s0.geograph.org.uk/img/external.png" width="10" height="10"/>
