Summary

Description
English: THEMIS daytime infrared image mosaic showing the Cerberus Fossae, a set of linear fissures on Mars formed by faulting in the Cerberus region, and their surroundings. The area is north of Elysium Planitia and southeast of the volcanic province of Elysium. Lava flows from Elysium drape the upper left. The outflow channels of the Athabasca Valles issue from the southwestern-most major fissure and flow southwest (in the lower left of the image). Various light and dark streaks are formed by interaction of prevailing winds with craters, fissures, and other topographic features. A few parts of the image (e.g., the fissures just left of upper center) have noticeable artifacts (parallel dark or light bands).
