Bahasa Indonesia: Foto. Sepasang beringin (dsebut Wringin Kembar dalam bahasa Jawa) di alun-alun utara Kraton Yogyakarta. Wringin Kembar memiliki arti filosofi seperti gunungan dalam pentas wayang kulit: melambangkan awal perjalanan hidup (kraton adalah simbol kosmologi), keseimbangan alam, hutan (di alun-alun diadakan pertarungan banteng lawan harimau), dan sebagainya.
Nederlands: Foto. Voor (en doorgaans ook achter) het paleis (kraton) van een Javaans vorst bevindt zich een alun-alun, een ongeplaveid plein waarop tijdens hoogtijdagen allerlei feestelijkheden plaatsvinden. De foto laat twee geschoren waringins zien omsloten door een hekwerk. Dit zijn de waringin kurung oftewel omsloten waringinbomen. Men kan ze zien als symbolen voor de door de heerser bedwongen wilde natuur. Op dit plein werden aanvankelijk toernooien gehouden, tijger-buffelgevechten en tijgerstekerijen, later vooral de grote Mohammedaanse feesten (garebeg).
