Nederlands: Negatief. De Bataks waren berucht vanwege hun reputatie als 'menseneters', wat er, naast de geïsoleerde ligging van het Batakgebied voor zorgde dat buitenstaanders zich niet in het gebied waagden. De meerderheid van de Bataks was niet Moslim, zodat de zendeling hier z'n geluk beproefde. Mocht dit voor individuele zendelingen weleens verkeerd aflopen, het eindresultaat was dat een flink percentage van de Bataks gekerstend werd en nog steeds Christen is. Simoloengoen werd voor het eerst in 1865 door Europeanen bezocht. Tussen 1889 en 1904 werd het gebied onderworpen, zij het dat de inheemse hoofden (raja) 'zelfbestuurders' werden.
