For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.  Leipzig, Hotel "Merkur"
ADN-ZB 9.9.1981 DDR Eine Anheimlichkeit mehr in der Messestadt Leipzig ...ist das 5-Sterne-Hotel "Merkur" in der Nähe des Hauptbahnhofes. Es wurde in 30 Monaten von japanischen Bauleuten fertiggestellt. Hinter der sachlichen Fassade verbirgt sich, was man von solch einem Haus erwartet: 447 Zimmer, ein Bankett- und Kongreßzentrum mit separater Empfangshalle, das mit seinen unterschiedlichen Raumvarianten Platz für 50 bis 350 Personen bietet. Mit der Benennung der Salons nach Goethe, Klinger, Leibniz, Bach und Gartenberg wird an die Verdienste erinnert, die sich diese bedeutensten Persönlichkeiten aus der Deutschen Geschichte um die Entwicklung der 800jährigen Messestadt erworben haben.
