Zentralbild Deutsche Demokratische Republik 3.10.1970 Hn. Berlin: Der "Hotelriese" am Alexanderplatz - das Interhotel "Stadt Berlin". Seit wenigen Wochen beziehen die Gäste der DDR-Hauptstadt das neue Interhotel "Stadt Berlin", das mit 123 Metern Höhe (38 Geschosse) eines der markantesten Gebäude im neuen Berliner Stadtzentrum ist. Das Hotelhochhaus nimmt in 1000 komfortablen Zimmern etwa 2000 Gäste auf. Den Fuß des Hochhauses umschließt ein zweigeschossiger Flachkörper, in dem sich neben dem großzügig gestalteten Foyer Restaurants und Cafés verschiedener Art befinden: Rotisserie mit Grillbar, eine Eis- und Milchbar, ein Espresso, eine originelle altberliner Gaststätte, ein elegantes Hotelrestaurant, eine Cafeteria und ein großer Festsaal für 580 Personen. Architektonisch in den Flachkörper einbezogen ist eine viergeschossige Hochgarage für 180 PKW's. Weitere Restaurants, Bars und Cafés befinden sich im 37. Stockwerk, der sogenannten Panoramaetage. Von hier aus können die Gäste bei Tag und Nacht einen herrlichen Ausblick über die Stadt genießen. Ein großes Kollektiv hervorragender Architekten war am Werk, so daß alle Zimmer, Restaurants und Klubräume mit den unterschiedlichsten künstlerische Stilelementen ihr eigenes Gepräge bekommen haben. Eine besondere Attraktion des Hotels ist eine moderne Sauna nach finnischem Vorbild.
