For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
ADN-ZB-Hiekel-6.2.85-zin-Dresden: 40 Jahre nach dem Inferno- Das wohl bedeutendste Wahrzeichen der alten Dresdener Stadtsilhouette war die von George Bähr errichtete Frauenkirche (1726-43). Durch das 95 m hohe Bauwerk schwang sich der protestantische Kirchenbau zu einer bis dahin nicht erreichten monumentalen Großartigkeit und Originalität auf. Das in der Nacht zum 14. Februar 1945 durch anglo-amerikanische Bomber zerstörte Gebäude blieb bis heute als Mahnmal erhalten. -Siehe auch Motiv 1985-0206-25 N und sechsteilige ADN-Meldung vom 6.2.1985-
